What is Fluff?

And who is writing this newsletter?

3

fluff

/fləf/

Noun

Entertainment or writing perceived as trivial or superficial

Inspired by Black actress Rosalind Cash’s quote on working in Hollywood published in Nichelle Gainer’s book, Black Vintage Glamour, “There are a lot of us who would like to assimilate all the glamour and fluff, but the hard truth is, we’re all out here trying to make a living.”

Fluff is fashion writer and editor Channing Hargrove’s biweekly newsletter with two formats, one style-focused essay and one five-sense breakdown delivered via written correspondence and audio file to your inbox.

Each newsletter will give a bit of glamour and fluff to a historical Black woman, based on that particular issue’s theme.

Channing’s career spans over a decade in New York media. She is currently the senior fashion writer at Disney and ESPN’s Black culture website, Andscape.

Previously, she was a culture editor for Grazia USA, a fashion news editor at Refinery29, and an associate editor at Racked NY. Channing has written for ELLE, Paper, New York Magazine’s The Cut, teenVOGUE, Essence, and Coveteur. Channing has been yearning for a soft and sensual reading experience centered on Black women’s pleasure.

Fluff is her promise to “show, don’t tell,” not only in her professional life but also in her personal life, combining her love for history, style, and storytelling to engage her senses in a bit of levity, some fun.

Subscribe to Fluff if you like the idea of injecting sensuality into your life. And don’t get fresh, because sensuality in this sense means “the expression or suggestion of physical pleasure or satisfaction.”

Fluff will help you ground yourself in everyday sensations while curating your idea of glamour and pleasure.
